John Comino

John Comino

John was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales on 14 June 1974 and of the High Court of Australia on 14 January 1976.

Since that time he has been practising in Sydney NSW initially as a Partner in the firm of Ziade and Comino in Matraville and Ashfield. Following a period practising on his own account at Matraville he entered partnership with Steven Prassas under the firm name Comino Prassas Solicitors practising initially in Belmore Road, Randwick and subsequently in Bondi Junction. In 2021 Comino Prassas Solicitors merged with Daniels Lawyers to become Comino Daniels Lawyers practising in Bondi Junction.

During this period of almost 50 years of practising law he has conducted a General Practice overseeing literally thousands of conveyancing transactions, preparing Wills for clients along with associated estate planning advice, preparing business contracts and a range of commercial agreements, leasing agreements and providing associated advice and also he has acted in personal injury claims whether involving motor vehicle accidents, work accidents or public liability claims.

John became an accredited specialist in Personal Injury Law in 1994 becoming one of a small number of legal practitioners in New South Wales entitled to claim specialist accreditation in the field of personal injury.  To become accredited he completed the rigorous process of assessment by the Law Society of NSW which involved written examination, interview by experts in the field already qualified and a highly complex assignment to earn this qualification.

In 2007 he became an accredited specialist in Property Law again completing the rigorous assessment process by the Law Society and continues to attend the additional compulsory seminars each year to maintain his level of expertise to practise as a specialist in the Property Law field.

An accredited specialist is different from practitioners who state that they “specialise” which is a self-assessment rather than going the rigorous examination and interview process conducted by the Law Society to ensure that the accredited specialist is sufficiently qualified and experienced to provide a high level of advice and direction in the specialised area of law involved.

As an accredited specialist in this area he is able to provide a “one stop shop” that extends not only to property conveyancing but also strata title issues, subdivision and development of land; title disputes; creation of easements and specific property rights; and all aspects of property relating to local councils including development applications, objections to proposed development impacts, Planning Law and resident issues with local council proposals. This last area was enhanced by his having served as a Councillor on Woollahra Municipal Council for 13 years. He served on the Development Control Committee and Urban Planning Committee of that Council which places him in a unique position to provide expert advice and assistance in a range of areas involving Local Government and Town Planning Law.

He is also a trained mediator having completed the LEADR (Lawyers Engaged in Alternative Dispute Resolution) course and regularly puts his mediation skills to use assisting clients to reach voluntary solutions without the threat and high cost of resorting to litigation through the court system.  This assists in removing the fear factor from problem solving involving clients and their lawyer negotiating terms of settlement in an environment of respect, honesty and dignity where parties with the assistance of their lawyer explore solutions to reach a resolution meeting their respective interests and concerns.

In addition to Property Law, John Comino’s other areas of practice involve other matters of concern to individuals and families which include Wills, Powers of Attorney, Enduring Powers of Attorney and Guardianship, Estate Planning, Administration of Deceased Estates and acting in relation to disputed estate claims.

John Comino is a member of the Law Society of NSW and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of NSW.  He also was appointed a Notary Public in 1985 and is able to authenticate and certify official documents for use internationally.

He is committed to providing the best level of service to his clients both with the application of his many years of experience in practising law and exercising compassion and sensitivity tailored to each client’s particular circumstances in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
